Montana Bliss Found on Nordic Trails

October 24, 2018

Big Sky is a winter wonderland with a vast amount of acreage, big mountains, open valley, and miles upon miles of trails.  If looking to explore other snow activities besides skiing, Big Sky has a plethora of land to explore.

Cross Country Skiing is a popular winter activity, especially around Big Sky.  Various Nordic trails and ranches provide plenty of cross country skiing options.  Have your chance to explore over 85 kilometers of groomed trails that are nationally ranked at Lone Mountain Ranch.  They provide rentals, guided tours and also lessons.

West Yellowstone is another great option where beautiful scenery and legendary trails provide the perfect Nordic adventure.  See the list of ranches and guided options below for cross country skiing in the Big Sky area.

Snowshoeing is another wonderful activity to find solitude among the beautiful mountains and frosty forests.  Wide open beauty awaits and there are a variety of options to snowshoe in and around Big Sky.  Signing up for a snowshoe tour provides a lovely afternoon on the Big Sky mountain as the tours meander through the Moose Tracks Gully.  The two hour guided tour departs from the Mountain Village at 1:00 p.m. and is recommended for people over 12 years old.   To register for a tour, call Basecamp at (406) 995-5769.

Other options to snowshoe around Big Sky are also available at the cross country ski areas.  As always when out for a snowshoe, dress in layers for changing mountain conditions and wear a hat, gloves, sunscreen and sunglasses.  Snow boots are also recommended.
