Activities For Kids In Big Sky

February 24, 2019

For the littlest ones, it can be hard to ski for a full week or even a few days in a row. Plus, the cost of ski lessons and lift tickets can add up, especially when you have a few kids to account for.

If you’re looking for non-skiing activities for kids in Big Sky, you’re in luck. The town, while centered on the ski mountain, still has great access to fun and more affordable activities.

Check out these featured kid-friendly activities in Big Sky.

1. Adventure Ziplining

Winter might seem like the off-season for ziplining, but Big Sky keeps its courses open year-round. In fact, Big Sky boasts the longest zipline in the entire Montana/Yellowstone region.

If you want to stay close to the mountain, Big Sky Resort’s Adventure Zipline Tour is the way to go. That’s because the zipline is actually on the mountain. Just take the Explorer Double Chair to the top, and then behold one of the country’s best ziplines.

You can cruise down 1,500 feet while you glide above tree line. Take in the beauty of Big Sky, including the Spanish Peaks and Lone Mountain, and have yourself an adventure at the same time.

If you want to zipline in the winter, make sure to bundle up in multiple layers and to come equipped with a face mask!

2. Snowshoe Touring

Snowshoeing is also a great activity for kids who need a break from skiing but want to get outside. Big Sky leads a range of snowshoe tours, including one for beginners. You’ll wander through the Moose Tracks Gully and spend the afternoon taking in the natural wonder of Big Sky.

Tours last for about two hours, so they’re a great afternoon activity that won’t leave you too zonked for the rest of the day.

3. Dog Sledding

Yes, that’s right: dog sledding. Transport yourself to the Iditarod as a husky pulls you along the Big Sky dog sledding trail. There’s nothing like this unique experience, and it’s offered at a few places in town.

If you’re in Big Sky and want activities for kids aside from skiing, you have plenty of options!
